Redington Foundation provides access to healthcare services to people living in rural areas through HelpAge India. A bus which has professional staff undertaking diagnostics of common ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, etc. visiting 21 villages in Tumkur district of Karnataka. The core focus of this initiative is to provide medical services at the doorsteps of poor individuals. This ensured that the patients residing in these rural areas were provided access to essential healthcare services. Chronic patients are provided assistance via provision of free medical health check-up and required medicines. Referrals for cases needing additional treatment were also made to nearby secondary and tertiary hospitals.
Through this initiative, 22318 patients have availed and benefits towards the regular health checkup from 60 villages in Tumkur district, Karnataka. MHU provides free Health Care Services to patients of all age groups at their doorsteps so the community members, especially daily wage workers and elderly people have easy access to primary health care and referral needs. Various health awareness programs conducted during the special days and the community sensitised in health awareness and health education. This regular follow up helped in the early detection of complications for both bedridden and elderly patients in the local villages.
